Tamar Saguy
I received my Ph.D in Social Psychology from the University of Connecticut in 2008 (advisors: Jack Dovidio and Felicia Pratto), and was then a postdoctoral associate at Yale University. Prior to my Ph.D studies I completed my BA and MA degrees at Tel Aviv University under the supervision of Dr. Arie Nadler. In 2009 I joined the psychology faculty at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC), Herzliya which is, since then, my new home.
Using a variety of methods and considering a range of social contexts, my research aims to understand the dynamics of intergroup relations, and in particular, the role that group power plays in shaping these relations. In my main line of work I investigate how differences in group-based power influence the way people approach intergroup encounters (in terms of goals, expectations, and motivations), and how they are affected by those encounters. In my second major line of work I study factors that may advance or undermine commitment to social change, while considering the different psychologies of advantaged and disadvantaged group members. In another related line of research I investigate methods for improving relations between groups in conflict while considering the dynamics of dehumanization between rival groups.
